Toys like dollhouse accessories can easily become your child’s favourite toys. They are simple but so much fun to play. They make playing with dollhouses more realistic and exciting. However after a few play sessions, these toys become dirty.

Cleaning your child’s dollhouse accessories or any toy for that matter is one of the most important tasks you need to do on a regular basis. It prevents your child from being in contact with germs and bacteria.

So with that in mind, here’s a few tips on how you can clean your child’s dollhouse accessories.

Dishwasher

If you’re a busy parent, you are probably looking for the most convenient way to clean your little one’s dollhouse accessories. Using your dishwasher to clean these playsets is probably the solution you’re looking for.

Some dollhouse accessories probably have lots of hard-to-reach areas, but you can get them cleaned up easily with the use of your dishwasher.

However, make sure that these toys are dishwasher-safe before chucking them into your dishwasher. They should not be battery-operated or they should not have any electrical parts.

Bucket of soapy water

If you don’t own a dishwasher, you can dump your dollhouse accessories into a bucket of soapy water and use a sponge or a soft bristle brush to clean them.

Alternatively, you can use store-bought baby wipes for a quick clean.

Keep it natural

If you want to keep your child’s toys clean and protected, try to use natural and homemade cleaning products. There are many natural cleaning products that are just as effective as their chemical-laden counterparts. More and more parents are becoming aware of the importance of using environmental-friendly products around kids.

Baking soda and vinegar are common house items and are perfect for cleaning! They are particularly effective at killing germs and removing stains from your child’s dollhouse accessories.

Don’t soak

When cleaning wooden dollhouse accessories, make sure you don’t soak or submerge them in water or any liquid cleaning solution. Doing so does harm to your toys and you will more likely end up with a deformed or damaged toy.

Wood is a porous material. This means that if you submerge it in water, moisture and water will get into the pores. Moisture that is trapped in the pores can cause many problems. For one, it will make the toy a conducive environment for mold growth.

Instead of soaking or submerging your wooden dollhouse accessory in water, use a spray bottle. If you want to remove stains and any obvious dirt, squirt some soapy water into the surface and scrub it gently with a sponge or unused toothbrush.

Once you get rid of the obvious dirt, grime and stains it’s time to wipe your dollhouse accessory with a damp cloth. Make sure to spritz some of your cleaning solution into the toy occasionally.

When the toy is all clean, wipe it with a dry cloth to remove any excess cleaning solution from the surface of the toy.

Dry properly

Make sure you dry your dollhouse accessories properly. You can air dry overnight or sun dry during the day. The heat of the sun does a good job at killing germs and bacteria. But don’t leave your toys under the sun for extended periods of time because it could cause the paint from the toy to come off.
