Top Tips When Using Eye Cream
If you feel that you need a little extra help, there are some methods to help your tired eyes out during the day:
Cool a teaspoon in the fridge and hold it against your closed tired eyes. This is a quick pick me up but it’s effective.
Making a brew? Keep those tea bags and use them as an eye compress. Make sure to let them cool first!
When making a salad, keep a slice of cucumber aside to soothe your eyes.
Make sure to protect your eyes from the sun. Wrap around sunglasses will block out UVA and UVB rays. Squinting can strain your eyes and the sun’s harmful rays can damage the delicate skin tissue.
Use of an eye mask can help to relax your eyes if you have five minutes spare to sit and relax.
A good tip is to use your ring finger when applying eye serums and eye cream. Pat, never pull or rub. Your ring finger will give you a light touch and patting avoids dragging that delicate skin.
Drainage Massage
You can drain fluid away from your eyes with a gentle drainage massage. It’s simple to do. This will take a couple of minutes. Apply a little serum or eye cream before starting, this will give slip to your skin.
- Place your thumb under your eyebrow and your forefinger above. Gently pinch from the inner corner outwards for the length of your eyebrow. Repeat up to 6 times. This releases tension and improves circulation and blood flow.
- Place your forefinger and middle finger on the outer edge of your eye bone under your eye. Your middle finger will be at the edge of your lower lashes. Roll your finger-tips in a rocking movement along the orbital bone working towards your nose. You might feel or even hear some fluid moving as you do this movement. You are pushing the fluid towards your tear ducts. Perform this movement 3 or 4 times.
- Tilt your head back and place your forefingers right on the inner corners of your eyes. Close to your nose, you will feel your tear ducts. Carefully apply pressure and you might notice some fluid draining. 10 seconds is plenty of time to feel the movement of fluid happening.
- Repeat step 2, however, this time you are working outwards from the nose towards your ear. Roll your fingers to move fluid away and along your lymphatic drainage system.
- This final step will move fluid away to a lower lymph gland in your neck. Right between your collar bones is a dip/hollow in the skin. In that dip is a lymph gland and this is where you want to bring the fluid to.
Once here, it will be eliminated as natural waste. Using your forefinger and middle finger placed on each temple, gently rock down the side of your face, over your jawbone and bring down over your neck and finish in that hollow. Do this several times and you should feel a relief in the pressure in your eyes and you will notice that they don’t feel quite so puffy. This drainage massage increases circulation and blood flow to the area which will help with the dark circles.
