These products will make your life easier by giving you freedom from all those disposable items cluttering up your bathroom cabinet.
Why should you make a switch to eco-friendly feminine sanitary and hygiene products?
Each year, millions of disposable sanitary products are flushed down the toilet. Sanitary towels are not meant to be flushed away. They aren’t biodegradable and can hang around polluting our oceans for many years. They are a danger to marine life which might mistake them for food and end up with a tummy full of plastic.
Have a look at environmentally-friendly feminine hygiene products and see how easy it will be for you to make the change. When you switch to reusable menstrual pads or period products, not only will be saving money, by going toxin-free but you will also be going more plastic-free.
A menstrual cup holds the equivalent of up to four tampons, so you will be going leak free as well! Whilst eco-friendly tampons are better than traditional menstrual products, they still create waste and use valuable resources.
We are slowly destroying our planet and there are steps that we can take every day that will protect the world around us whilst saving us money and being kind to our skin. Your menstrual health and menstrual waste need to be taken into consideration as well.
The green period ranges include everything from standard pads for medium flow to super-heavy maternity pads. They are very easy to wash, just leave them soaking in cold water to remove any stains.
There are many natural alternatives to disposable feminine sanitary products, you choose which best feminine hygiene product that suits your needs and likes, and there are plenty of eco-friendly alternatives for your period care, whether its a super heavy flow (we know the pain of heavy periods!) or a light flow super soft period pant.
It’s time to embrace zero waste for lighter days or heavy days! There are options apart from single-use menstrual products for your time of the month.
What are my options?
The main options for menstrual products are:
- Reusable Sanitary Towels -Reusable Pads
- Menstrual cup
- Biodegradable organic tampons and pads
- Period Pants
Reusable Sanitary Pads
Reusable period pads are very popular, especially amongst those who have used reusable nappies on their children. When you’ve seen the benefits of cloth nappies then it’s easy to see the benefits of cloth sanitary pads. They are much kinder and gentler for sensitive skin
Reusable organic cotton sanitary towels are shaped very similarly to the disposable pads that you may be used to. They come in various absorbencies, and lengths and you can get maternity, night, and day versions without any of the harmful chemicals.
There are many different absorbent eco-friendly materials used for reusable menstrual pads, organic cotton pads, fleece, and bamboo being others. There is a PUL outer layer on sanitary pads, this keeps the menstrual blood contained and stops it from leaking through onto your clothing.
Reusable pads are very comfortable to wear. Our customers report that they have no chafing or irritation with eco-sanitary pads and the pads stay put in their underwear.
To build a reusable sanitary pads stash, think about how you normally protect yourself during your period. Do you start with a pant liner then move to a heavy-duty pad as your menstrual flow increases? You could replicate this with cloth by starting with a cloth pant liner and then moving to a more absorbent pad for your heavier days. Also, a wet bag is ideal for days out.

Everyone has a different period and menstrual flow of course, however, our team will be able to guide you should you need help buying.
Washable menstrual pads are a great eco-friendly alternative to disposable pads. Pop them into your washing machine and hang them up to dry. So easy.
You can have a waste-free period and not be one of those women that dispose of thousands of pads over a lifetime. When washing doesn’t use fabric softener on your reusable pads or period pants as they will stop the fabrics from absorbing the menstrual fluid, also put them on a cold wash first to stop any stains from setting in.
Menstrual cup
Reusable cups are some of the most popular feminine hygiene products now and rightly so. Made from medical-grade silicone, a menstrual cup sits in the vagina during your menstrual cycle and collects the menstrual blood. They are very kind to your vaginal environment as they don’t dry out your vaginal walls.
There are various shapes of a reusable cups. Most have a stem that you can use to site the cup or to retrieve it. Often women cut the stem off as they become used to handling, placing, and removing their menstrual cups. A cup is a great alternative to tampons.
You only need one cup as you remove and empty it, then insert it again. You don’t leave it to dry and it doesn’t need to be rinsed each time it’s emptied. You can simply wipe with toilet paper and reinsert. When your period has finished, you boil the cup to prepare it for your next cycle. Our menstrual cups are a great way to end period poverty, as one cup should last 10-20 years.
There is a considerably reduced risk of TSS (toxic shock syndrome) compared to when using tampons. Some frequent questions on using a menstrual cup are:
How much blood does it hold?
It’s surprising how little blood the average woman loses during her period. When you use a menstrual cup, you see exactly what menstrual fluid looks like and you can learn a lot about your own body and how it works. On average, a menstrual cup should be emptied every 4 hours however they are suitable for overnight use and can be left for longer if you don’t get a chance to empty it.
My periods are really heavy, will a cup suit me too?
Yes, a cup is still an option for anyone with a heavy menstrual flow. Some of our customers like to have a backup of a cloth pant liner and that can be an option if you are concerned about leaking. Generally speaking, using a menstrual cup can reduce leaks due to the amount of fluid they can hold.
Is a cup suitable for a teenager?
Yes, there are soft cups available that teens can use successfully. Confidence plays a part in how suitable a cup would be and if a teen is comfortable with her body and willing to experiment with a cup, then she may find it to be the perfect menstrual product.

Reusable Tampon Applicator or Biodegradable Cardboard Applicator
When deciding whether to use a brand of tampons it’s important to look at the applicators, if they have some. Choose one with a biodegradable applicator or a reusable applicator, yes reusable applicator!
Eco tampons should also come in a cardboard box, not wrapped in plastic! You can get reusable tampons but most people prefer a cup. The plastic ones end up going to landfills and staying there for hundreds of years.
